Condolences were offered to his loving wife Freda and his seven children whom Trefor adored namely Lester, Robert, David, Margaret, Gordon, Owain and Arwel and all their families. Trefor was a grandfather to 17 and soon to be a great grandfather. He had two brothers namely his brother Arnold who is 80 years old and lives in Telford but unable to be present due to ill health. His other brother Carol passed away 3 years ago,he was the Head of Llanegryn Primary School but his wife Llywela was at the funeral with one of her sons. A tribute to Trefor was paid by Canon Thomas who also read wonderful personal tributes from his wife Freda and daughter Margaret. Trefor was born in Rhiw on the Llyn Peninsula;his parents were William and Margaret Elizabeth Hughes and they lived in Penbwlch. He attended Ysgol Rhiw and Ysgol Botwnnog. This lovely part of Llyn meant everything to Trefor throughout his life-his paintings are a reminder of all this.Trefor and his wife Freda met when she was working in Butlins and he was singing in the Gaiety Theatre. As Freda always said-”I heard the voice before seeing him”.They met in the month of May that year and were married in September. They moved to Penbwlch in Rhiw where they sold tea and gifts from the cottage also they made wine, pies, butter, bread and thoroughly enjoyed life.Their first son Lester was born in 1974. Trefor worked in Nanhoron Quarry. The family moved to a temporary home at Penrhos and Trefor worked for the Council; then they moved to village of Trefor where the family had grown to 6 boys and 1 girl. Trefor was fond of flowers, painting and singing - a man of many talents. He had a great love of flowers and won numerous competitions down the years in various flower and agricultural shows -on average he competed in 13 shows very Summer. Every year without fail he competed at the annual Flower Show in Trefor. Gardening was his pride and joy. Art and painting was another talent of his and he designed cards as well and he met well known painters. He had a painting hung at the Royal National Eisteddfod in Wrexham - quite an achievement. He did brighten up everyone’s lives with his pallete of colours. He sang with his guitar in many places down the years and enjoyed singing at local Eisteddfodau which the audience enjoyed. Trefor was likeable, polite, kind, appreciative and his conversations enjoyable and full of humour. Above all a family man and Margaret’s tribute like her mother’s mentioned their personal loss of losing a husband and father whom they thought the world of. The committal was at the village cemetery and his boys were the bearers as they walked up the steep village hill to their father’s final resting place. Reftreshments were served at the Babell with donations in memory of Trefor in aid of Bryn Beryl League of Friends. The Funeral director was Ifan Hughes,Ceiri Garage, LLanaelhaearn with thanks to Nia as well.
