Bethel U14s hit nine as seniors and U16s also record victories

-

BETHEL’S female footballers enjoyed a win treble last weekend.

The seniors, so heroic in defeat to Cardiff City in the Welsh Cup quarter-finals seven days earlier, returned to winning ways with a tight 4-3 victory over Prestatyn in the North Wales Women’s League.

Mollie Kelly put the home side in front but Bethel soon levelled when Leonie Prytherch pressured the keeper into a mistake and slotted into an empty net.

The visitors went 2-1 up when Sioned Phillips’ low cross forced a home defender to find her own net under pressure from Llio Emyr.

However, Prestatyn hit back when Ellie Sandiford equalised before the break.

Bethel began the second half brightly, Prytherch beating the keeper from 30 yards before Mari Gibbard burst through the defence and rifled in off the underside of the bar.

Shannon Hobbs volleyed in a consolation for Prestatyn in added time.

Nel Jones netted seven times for Bethel Under-14s in a 9-0 demolition of Llangefni. Anest Roberts scored two – one a free kick from 25 yards that struck the post on its way in. Bethel Under-16s won 4-1 at Rhyl Hearts. The visitors grabbed the lead when Katie Houghton drove a low cross into Erin Maloney, whose cushioned touch enabled Elain Elis to lash into the top corner.

Rhyl levelled before the interval, but Bethel turned on the style as they romped to victory in the second half.

Houghton’s deflected effort made it 2-1 before Maloney used her speed to burst through and find the net. Houghton smacked home a free kick to wrap up a fine victory.
