Tour shows life begins at 40 for Bara Caws theatre company

-

GWYNEDD-BASED theatre company Bara Caws is celebrating its 40th birthday with a special tour throughout Wales this month.

Yfory (Tomorrow) is a topical, political piece by the award-winning dramatist, Sion Eirian.

When they last worked with Siôn in 2014 on Garw, the experience was a resounding success for Bara Caws, so expectations are high.

The 90-minute play tells the story of both a personal crisis and a political crisis and, as the title suggests, by tomorrow things will have changed.

In politics, an unexpected crisis can be an opportunity to implement solutions which would previously not have been possible, and following the 2016 elections, the Assembly is in crisis.

Gwyn Davies, the new leader of Plaid Cymru, and his charismatic partner, Ellie, plan a new departure for their party and for Welsh politics.

But two unexpected visitors call in to their apartment in Cardiff Bay, both threatening to destroy the political and personal futures of Gwyn and Ellie.

Dewi Rhys Williams plays Gwyn and Caryl Morgan is Ellie. The cast also includes Rhodri Evan and Aled Bidder.

The play is directed by Bara Caws artistic director by Betsan Llwyd.

During the summer Bara Caws will stage a number of special productions to celebrate their ruby anniversary.

Administrator Linda Brown, who has clocked up nearly 35 years with Bara Caws, said the celebrations include a five night stint at the National Eisteddfod’s Theatr y Maes and a huge party on the Eisteddfod Maes on Friday, August 11 at 2pm.

“We will be looking back at some of the productions from the past as well as looking forward to the future,” she said.

Yfory will be staged at Galeri Caernarfon (01286 685222) on Monday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 21 and Neuadd Dwyfor, Pwllheli (01766 704088) on Wednesday, March 22. The plays starts at 7.30pm.

The play then visits Theatr Clwyd on March 24/25 and Theatr Twm o’r Nant, Denbigh on March 25.

A Welsh language production with some strong language an English precis will be available.
