Canaries fire 4 past Bethel

CHAMPIONS CONTINUE WINNING FORM

-

NORTH Wales Women’s League champions Caernarfon Town continued their winning form with a 4-0 triumph away to local rivals Bethel last weekend.

It was a 17th win in 18 matches for the Canaries, who face a quick return against Bethel at The Oval this Sunday (1pm).

On a difficult pitch last Sunday, both teams were made to battle.

Caernarfon got off to a great start with Sioned Bohana feeding a long pass to captain Ffion Owen, who reached the ball before the advancing goalkeeper and slotted it past her.

Bethel, who reached the Welsh Cup quarter-finals this season and have performed well in the league, were quick on the break as Caer- narfon pushed up the pitch.

Klaudia Wojtyczka, who was in goal for the visitors while regular keeper Elena Julio operated in the midfield, made a fine save midway through the first half.

Not long after, Town’s Steph Davies cleared the ball from close to the goal-line to keep the score at 1-0.

Anna Jones did well to get a shot in for the champions, but it was saved.

Not long before half time, Owen was fouled in the box and Julio proved as good at taking penalties as she is at saving them, firing into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 come the interval.

Caernarfon played much better in the second half, notching an early third goal when Ceri Slaney hit a shot from outside the box which looped over the keeper and into the net to all but secure the points.

The travelling side then had a spell of defending to do, during which they concentrated well and constantly got the ball clear.

Tash Jones came on for Caernarfon and did very well as she took players on and looked dangerous on the ball.

Leonie Prytherch for Bethel fired in a good low shot which Wojtyczka got down quickly to save.

As the second half went on, players were getting tired and the game opened up.

The fourth goal for Caernarfon came near the end with Tash Jones doing well down the left, passing back to Ffion Owen whose shot went in over the keeper.

Both teams played well in a good, battling derby and the return match this Sunday should be another wellcontested affair.
