Late goal sees Llanberis fall to narrow defeat

-

LLANBERIS will have been disappointed to come away from Llanrwst United 1-0 losers last weekend and are sure to aim for better when they host Llangefni Town in a Division One tussle this Saturday (2.30pm).

The Darans had lost 4-1 at home to the Rwsters earlier this season and encountered early bother at Parc Gwydir when home skipper Leighton Griffiths threatened from a corner, but his header was well saved by keeper Louis Williams.

Williams’ quick thinking found Guto Llywellyn with a massive kick. Llywellyn beat his man but home guardian Christian Wright saved the day, getting down low to his left and pushing the ball round the post.

In a frantic first 10 minutes, Llywelyn found himself on the edge of the box but as he went to shoot, the referee thought he was pulled back by Steffan Whiteley.

The official decided not to punish the Rwsters defender but awarded the Darans a free kick in a dangerous position.

However, Rhys Jones’ effort was saved comfortably.

The Rwsters grew into the game, a great curling effort by Matt Beach bringing the best out of Williams.

The first half was nearly up when United’s Callum Parry shot agonisingly wide.

Dylan Thomas came on for Llanberis in the second half and caused problems on the left.

Substitute Gerad Laidlaw thought he had put the visitors in front, but Wright produced a magnificent save.

With the game end-to-end entering the last 10 minutes, a well-taken corner found Griffiths, whose header towards the back post was met perfectly by Whiteley to give Llanrwst the lead.

Williams denied ‘Rwst’s Callum Parry twice late on, while Jonathan Cyster and Llion Jones went close for ‘Beris.
