P WLLHELI stormed into the Conwy Land Rover North Wales Senior Cup semi-finals last weekend with a 37-0 victory at Caernarfon.

The Llyn side will now host Abergele in the last-four on a date to be confirmed for the right to face Bala in the final.

This Saturday, Pwllheli can get an early look at their semi-final foes as they travel to bottom side Gele for a Division One North clash.

Last weekend’s tussle at Y Morfa saw a Pwllheli penalty hit the post after 15 minutes.

From the rebound Pwll set up a driving maul and after two surges were thwarted hooker Kevin Morris squeezed over. Osian Parry Jones was true with his conversion.

Hughes Jones broke the Caernarfon cover and put Pugh in the clear to score his team’s second try. Caernarfon came back and pressed the visitors, but the Llyn side’s defence was up to the task. Following a Cofis error, the visitors broke away in almost the last play of the half. Flanker Dafydd Anwyl made ground and put the supporting Tom Parry in the clear for him to touch down under the posts. The conversion took the half time score to 19-0. The visitors started the second period strongly and added to their lead after only four minutes when Parry Jones kicked a penalty. As earlier Caernarfon reacted well, but their forays were invariably cut short by stout Pwllheli defending. Pwll had a player yellow carded on six minutes but Caernarfon could take no advantage. In contrast, when the hosts had a player sin-binned after 23 minutes Pwllheli fully capitalised. Within two minutes a 30-metre rolling maul allowed Dafydd Anwyl to crash over, Parry Jones improving with the boot. Pwllheli added a further three points before late on No8 Tom Parry registered his second try. The visitors were delighted their flanker Carron Jones was chosen as Man of the Match. Jones has done well since his return from New Zealand and boosts the pool of excellent back row forwards now available to the club. Third-place Caernarfon will aim to bounce back when they host Colwyn Bay in Division One North this Saturday (2.30pm).
