SPECIAL CONCERT FEATURES SCHOOL AND TOP CHOIR

-

YOUNGSTERS from a Gwynedd school are looking forward to singing with one of Wales’ best male voice choirs in a special concert.

Pupils and staff at Ysgol Hafod Lon near Porthmadog have been working on a new musical project with Groundworks North Wales, which will culminate in the children performing alongside Côr y Brythoniaid from Blaenau Ffestiniog at Plas Glyn y Weddw in Llanbedrog.

The school teaches children with a range of additional needs from the age of five to 18.

Ellen Williams, community projects coordinator with Groundworks, said: “The children have been working hard for many weeks making musical instruments, learning new songs and practising their new skills.

“A new choir, Côr Bach, has been created with a focus on traditional Welsh songs, folk songs, sea shanties, hymns and lullabies.

“The hard work of all the children can be seen on Friday, March 31, with a concert celebrating all they have learnt.”

Formed in June 1964 to compete in a small chapel eisteddfod with just 15 members, Côr y Brythoniaid has grown considerably since then.

A long history of competing at the National Eisteddfod continued last year with a first place.

The choir has sung across the world and is the resident choir at the Festival No 6 event at Portmeirion.

The concert starts at 7pm. Admission is free and all are welcome. There will be a raffle on the night with all the proceeds going to Ysgol Hafod Lon.
