Missing dad feared dead

-

MISSING Caernarfon dad Johnathan Edwards is feared dead, according to police.

His heartbroken family last night paid tribute to the 21-year-old as police revealed the search had been scaled down.

The force said efforts to find Mr Edwards had proved “fruitless”.

The father of one, originally from Llangefni, Anglesey, vanished on March 19.

Sergeant Rhys Gough at Caernarfon Police Station said: “Despite all our, and Johnathan’s family and friends’ efforts to find him and in the absence of any sightings or ‘signs of life’ it’s becoming increasingly clear that Johnathan may have ended up in the Menai Strait therefore making further physical searching of the area both impractical and, sadly, futile.

“We are now sadly awaiting the recovery of his body.

“We have therefore held a very difficult and distressing meeting with Johnathan’s mother and wife to fully outline our rationale behind this decision, to seek their support and to reassure them the investigation will remain open until Johnathan is reunited with them.”

Speaking on behalf of the whole family, his wife and mother thanked the public and police for the support and kind words they have received but asked to be allowed time and privacy to come to terms with what has been a hugely distressing and devastating time for them.

They both added: “Jono was a lovely and loving son, husband, father and brother and the last two weeks our lives have turned upside down.

“We are all devastated but very grateful to his friends and local community for the support given to police and the publicity in helping us try to find him.

“However we are now asking for time and privacy so we can support each other through this very difficult time.”

The matter is not being treated as suspicious and police have urged anyone who can help with their investigation to please get in touch.
