ST BEUNO’S CHURCH: Sunday April 9 at 11am in St Beuno’s Chapel, Holy Communion (Engliah). The Church is open every day where you will find an exhibition telling of its history.

OLWEN GRIFFITHS: On Tuesday, March 28 at Bangor Crematorium the funeral took place of Olwen Griffiths, Plas y Bryn, Clynnog Fawr. She passed away peacefully at home on March 19 aged 96 after being at Ysbyty Gwynedd. Condolences to her son Hywel and all the family. Olwen was born in 1921 the only daughter of William Henry and Mary Elizabeth Gough. Her home was in Abercynon in the county of Glamorgan and was educated at Abertaf infant and central school and then Mountain Ash Grammar School. Her family were devoted Weslyan Methodists and Olwen played a full part in Chapel life. She went to Swansea Teacher Training College which was badly hit during the War by German bombers. Olwen became a teacher for 38 years at the Albert Road School, Hinckley, Leicestershire and was in charge of the Scholarship Class. She married Glyndwr Griffiths in April 1946 at Capel Eglwysbach in Pontypridd. Glyn had been a prisoner of war for four years and became a teacher and together with Olwen developed tactile material for children to develop their concepts which was manufactured in Leicester. In the early 1950s the family purchased a caravan at West Point in Pontllyfni and years later bought Bron Heulog in the village and in 1988 the family came to live in Plas y Bryn, Clynnog Fawr. Olwen was kind and dedicated to her parents; her mother died at the age of 98. Her husband Glyn passed away in 2004. Since 1974 St Beuno’s Church in Clynnog played an important part in the family’s life, indeed the Church is indebted to them for years of dedicated and faithful service. Olwen served on the Church Council whilst her son Hywel was a Churchwarden, a bellringer, an important member of the Building Commitee, a Church guide, and immersed himself in all aspects of the Church’s long history. Olwen treasured having Holy Communion at home by Canon Thomas until he retired with his strong emphasis on Parish visiting. Olwen in her last years depended on Hywel her son, and he showed true love in action towards his beloved mother constantly. The funeral service at the Crematorium was taken by Canon Idris Thomas, Deiniolen, the organist was Basil Thomas, Bontnewydd and the scripture reading was read by Richard Jones, Llwyn y Ne, Clynnog a family friend; he and Hywel were Churchwardens at the same time in Clynnog Church. Donations in memory of Olwen were towards North Wales Ambulance Fund and refreshments after the funeral were provided at Plas y Bryn. The funeral director was Huw John Jones, Glanrafon, Pontllyfni.

CANOLFAN HANES UWCHGWYRFAI: Nos Wener cafwyd sgwrs hynod ddiddorol gan Vivian Parry Williams, yr hanesydd gweithgar o Fro Ffestiniog. Argyhoeddodd yr aelodau’n llwyr mai Elis o’r Nant, testun ei sgwrs, oedd “un o’r cymeriadau mwyaf lliwgar a welodd Dyffryn Conwy a Chymru erioed.” Ar nos Wener olaf Ebrill croesewir Eryl Owain, ysgrifennydd Clwb Mynydda Cymru, ymysg pethau eraill, a golygydd y gyfrol, “Copaon Cymru” a gyhoeddwyd at y Nadolig. Bydd yn dangos lluniau o’r llyfr ar y sgrin fawr.
