RUGBY: Pwllheli were rocked by Tudno but came back to win Division 1 clash

-

PWLLHELI turned around a narrow half-time deficit to win their latest Division One North tussle at Llandudno 27-20.

Tudno rocked their visitors within a minute of the kick-off, centre Dave Davies racing through from 40 metres to score a try.

Pwllheli then had a good 10 minutes, John Pugh scorching over for a try before scrum-half Nick Butterworth set up No8 Tom Parry for a touchdown which Osian ParryJones converted.

However, a great Cameron Davies try and penalty put the home side 13-12 ahead at the break.

Just before the interval, an altercation led to Llandudno No8 Kelvin Davies being red-carded, while Butterworth and second row Francisco Campos were shown yellow.

The start of the second period was tense, but despite having an extra man Llandudno were unable to unlock the Pwllheli rearguard.

Back to full strength, Pwll took the game to the home team.

Hard work from the pack enabled Butterworth to crashed over for his side’s third try, which put them ahead.

Butterworth then completed his double before Parry finished off a scintillating long distance try.

In the final play of the match, Tudno’s fine scrum half Cameron Davies caught the Pwllheli defence napping to score. His conversion took the final score to 27-20.

To come away with a try bonus point win and no injuries was the best Pwllheli could hope for.

Next is a huge test against Caernarfon this Saturday at Bodegroes sponsored by Hafan-yMor (2.30pm).
