Point will all but seal fourth spot for Porthmadog

-

PORTHMADOG will all but seal fourth place in the Huws Gray Alliance with a draw in their final game of the campaign at Penrhyncoch this Saturday (2.30pm).

Craig Papirnyk’s side will travel to Cae Baker on the back on a fine 2-1 win at Guilsfield last weekend.

The home side started brightly with some good close passing, but failed to turn possession into worthwhile chances.

The closest they came to a goal in the opening half was from a well-struck 20 yard free kick by Chris Cathrall which clattered the post.

Port, on the other hand, looked more threatening with some strong breaks.

The visitors took a deserved lead on 34 minutes with the finest move of the afternoon.

Ceri James sent a flick into the path of Cai Jones to wrong-foot the home defence and his perfectly weighted through ball put in Sion Bradley on the right of the box.

The wideman coolly drew the keeper and placed a low shot across Lee Andrew into the far corner of the net.

Port started the second half strongly and a good through ball from Bradley put Joe Williams in on goal but his shot, past the advancing Andrew, also went beyond the outside of the post.

The visitors continued to apply pressure and James, in dominant mood in midfield, found Julian Williams on the right. He cut inside, but lifted his shot over the bar.

With 75 minutes gone, Bradley twisted his ankle and was replaced by Meilir Williams.

Young forward Williams took just three minutes to find the net when he flicked home Julian Williams’ free kick at the near post.

Guils replied in injury time through Sam Litchfield, but it was all too late.
