Pwllheli’s flying start continues in a 15-0 romp

-

PWLLHELI Cricket Club’s storming start to the season in the North Wales League 1st XI First Division continued last weekend with a 15-0 away hammering of Carmel.

The Llyn side, relegated from the Premier last year, already hold a 15-point lead at the summit of their new division although they have played a game more than nearest challengers Dolgellau.

Pwll have claimed the maximum 15 points from three of their first four matches and took 14 in the other.

Put into bat by Carmel, the visitors amassed 258 all out off 49.2 overs.

Rocking on 23-2 at one stage, Jason Underwood went on to score 65 and skipper Michael Hughes 62, with Morgan MurrayWilliams adding a vital 43.

Martin Jones then produced a great spell of 5-45 as Carmel were sent packing for 144.

After an opening wicket stand of 43, the home side offered little resistance.

The rest of the wickets were shared between Owen Reilly, Sean Reilly and Chris Moore with the innings also including two run-outs.

Pwllheli will aim to boost their record to five straight wins when they entertain Conwy at Parc Bodegroes this Saturday.

In the 2nd XI League West Division, a century from veteran and former Wales international Neil Williams was not enough to save Pwllheli from a 13-2 loss at home to Bangor.

The visitors called the coin correctly and chose to bat, chalking up a formidable 235-5 off their 40 overs.

Pwllheli’s response was largely all about Williams, who made 100 exactly before he was out caught.

Rhys Griffiths (29) and skipper Osian Williams (16) were the only other doublefigure scorers as Pwll ended on 170-9.
