Going wild for cancer charity

-

● A fearless firefighter from Porthmadog will test his survival instincts by spending two days and one night in the Irish wilderness to raise money for life-saving cancer research with Heart North Wales. Inspired by his two uncles, Malcolm and Bobby Pearson who have both been diagnosed with prostate cancer, Richard Brookes, 47, has signed up to take part in Heart North Wales Challenge the Wild weekend. Malcolm, 68, is now in recovery after two years of treatment and his brother Bobby, 63, is continuing his fight with regular treatment and support from family and friends. To help raise money for North West Cancer Research, Richard will join nine other fundraisers and Heart North Wales presenters Oli Kemp and Rachael Howarth in Killarney, County Kerry in June. Richard has been cycling 175km each week in preparation and has added a mixture of cardio and strength training to his workout regime. North West Cancer Research funds life-saving cancer research in North Wales and has committed to funding more than £13milllion worth of research over the next five years.
