Arfon Ladies in prime position after quick start

ARFON Ladies are early leaders of the Gwynedd and Anglesey Summer League Division One table on goal difference after two rounds of matches.

The Caernarfon area team thrashed Arfon Celts 44-8 to claim the summit.

Rachel Southall was player of the match for Arfon, Lauren Oliver for Celts.

Champions Menai Bridge had to fight hard to overcome Penygroes Ladies 30-25.

Penygroes led 7-5 after the opener but by half time Bridge were 12-11 up.

Entering the last quarter, the Anglesey side were still just one goal up at 21-20 before finally managing to pull away.

Pwllheli eventually ran out comfortabl­e 30-18 winners over Menai Mavericks, but only led 14-11 at halfway.

In Division Two, Holyhead Juniors pipped Red Sox 19-17 in a cliffhange­r.

Sox were 7-4 in front, but going into the curtain-closer, Caergybi were 15-14 ahead.

Menai Thunder produced a big last session to draw 29-29 with Tim o Walis.

Walis led 10-7, 16-14 and 23-22, but Thunder took the last 7-6 to share the spoils.
