Strength and depth added

CAERNARFON Town have unveiled some exciting new signings as they aim to build towards a successful 2017/18 campaign.

Midfielder Gareth Evans, defender Rhys Roberts and striker Mark Griffiths have all joined the Canaries.

Evans was an outstanding player for Llandudno in their first season in the Welsh Premier League, but struggled with injuries last term.

Town manager Iwan Williams said: “Gaz is someone I’ve admired for a very long time.

“He’s your typical box to box midfielder, has bags of quality, loves a tackle and has vast experience.

“Gaz has played in the English system for a very successful Colwyn Bay side under Frank Sinclair before helping Llandudno get to the Welsh Premier League. Since then he’s experienced European football so comes in with the know-how required to reach the top level.”

Roberts arrives at The Oval from Holyhead Hotspur, where he was first-team captain.

Williams added: “Rhys is one of the most professional of footballers I’ve shared a dressing room with, and, having been captain at nearly every club he’s been at, it’s safe to say that his attitude is second to none.

“He’s a commanding centre half who can mix it with the most physical of strikers. He’s left footed so can offer us balance also which is something we haven’t had since losing Grahame Austin through a long term back injury.”

Roberts has also represented Porthmadog and Airbus.

Griffiths joins from fellow Huws Gray Alliance club Caersws.

“Mark for me is up there as one of the best strikers in the league,” said manager Williams. “Having played with Mark in my last full season as a player at Caersws I know exactly the qualities he has and what he will bring to this football club.

“He’s a striker with Welsh Premier League experience having played at Newtown before returning to help a struggling Caersws side beat relegation by scoring 12 goals in 13 appearances at the back end of last season.

“He’s a different type of striker to what we already have at the club in the sense that he plays off the shoulder and looks to run in behind. His work ethic is tremendous and is something I admire within players and I know the Caernarfon Town supporters will take to him.”
