Pwllheli suffer a mini-crisis in quest for title
AFTER a flying start to the season, Pwllheli’s cricketers have hit a mini-crisis with two straight defeats.
The latest blow for the Llŷn side saw them lose the North Wales League First Division leadership last Saturday with a narrow reverse at Bethesda.
The visitors won the toss and put Pesda into bat, the hosts chalking up 225-8 off their 50 overs.
Sean Reilly took 3-41 and Morgan Murray-Williams 3-58 for Pwll, the home side’s main batting star being Michael Jennings, who finished 83 not out.
In reply, the Llŷn outfit dipped to 41-2 before a third-wicket stand of 106 between Murray-Williams and Jason Underwood raised the spirits.
When Underwood departed for 41 it sparked a steady loss of wickets, and after Murray-Williams went on 83 the travellers were in trouble at 205-8.
Pwll could only add another 14 as they finished 219 all out and went down to a six-run, 11-4 defeat.
Carwyn L Williams (3-40) and Gareth V Edwards (3-49) were Pesda’s main bowling heroes.
Pwllheli will look to bounce back at home to Dolgellau this Saturday.
In the 2nd XI West Division, Pwllheli lost 12-3 at home to Conwy.
Logan Rhys Morgan produced an excellent return of 4-21 off eight overs as the visitors posted 143-5 from 40.
Opener Neil Williams hit a dominant 75 for Pwllheli in response, but he had no support as the home side finished on 104-6.
Pwllheli seconds will be hoping to break their duck for the campaign when they visit bottom side Dolgellau this Saturday. Pwll are next-to-bottom and still winless after seven attempts.
