Dolphin Watch project

● In 2016 a new Marine Code was launched in Gwynedd. The code lets boat users know the best way to behave around marine mammals such as bottlenose dolphins to minimise their impact on these creatures. The Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau SAC (Special Area of Conservation) has launched a new project called Dolphin Watch to monitor the compliance to the Marine Code and gather valuable data about our marine mammals. The Dolphin Watch project is looking for volunteers to watch for dolphins noting their movements and behaviour. The Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau SAC is running a training session on Thursday, June 29 for those that would like to take part or just to see what it’s all about. The session will begin in the Abersoch golf club at 11am to be followed by an outdoor session on the coast in the early afternoon. No previous experience necessary! If you would like to attend the session please bring: A packed lunch. A chair or blanket to sit on outside. Appropriate clothing for the weather. Binoculars (if you have them) The session will be lead by Alison Hargrave, Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau SAC Officer at Gwynedd Council. Alison said: “This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about these wonderful creatures, contribute to their conservation and hopefully see them in their natural environment.” This project has been funded by Natural Resources Wales, Gwynedd Council, Snowdonia National Park Authority, Welsh Water and Trinity House, contributing to the protection of our local marine environment.
