Surgery could save my life but they obviously don’t see me as priority ...it’s so heartbreaking
left until 2.30 to be told there were no beds available.
“It was so distressing, not only for myself but my family.
“What makes it worse is that this was the third time this has happened.”
Mrs Onuzi was originally booked in to have her operation on May 2 but it was cancelled due to “more serious cases” coming in.
The same happened at her rescheduled appointment on May 16.
“My condition may not be cancer but can be potentially life-threatening,” she added. “The time before last I was admitted my infection had caused sepsis. “I’m so upset words can’t describe. “I was told I was top of the priority list, but this obviously isn’t the case.
“I believe the system is failing and in particular Ysbyty Gwynedd as I have friends who have been in similar situations.
“I need this operation done as soon as possible and at this point I just wish I could have it somewhere else but I don’t think that’s an option.
“It’s very emotional and mentally draining to physically and mentally prepare yourself for such a big operation for it just to be cancelled.
“I’ve been left heartbroken by the whole situation.”
Mrs Onuzi’s surgery has now been rescheduled for this Wednesday, July 5.
A spokesperson from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said: “We recognise the importance to patients and their families/carers of confirmed operation dates and strive to avoid cancellations wherever possible and we have apologised to Mrs Onuzi for the cancellation.
“We are unable to comment on the detail of individual cases due to patient confidentiality.
“We will be in touch with Mrs Onuzi shortly to rearrange her operation date and we would be more than happy to discuss her concerns with her directly.”
