Pobol y Cwm in N Wales

-

THE cast and crew of S4C soap opera Pobol y Cwm are filming on location in North Wales this week.

Scenes being shot in Caernarfon and the surrounding area will be broadcast later this year, but S4C and the show’s producers remain tight-lipped about the storyline.

They have, however, revealed that Kelly Evans, a character played by Lauren Phillips, is central to the plot being filmed. “Rough diamond” Kelly is here on a mission to discover the truth and befriends local girl Chloe, played by Lowri Mererid, making her debut on the long-running soap.

Lowri, from Pwllheli, has appeared in a number of drama series, starting her career in Jabas. Most recently she was in the S4C courtroom drama Dim ond y Gwir (Nothing but the Truth), which was also filmed in the Caernarfon area.

“It has been a pleasure to be part of such an iconic series bang on my doorstep. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming,” said Lowri.

The meeting will have long-term consequences for some of the soap’s leading characters, but the production team said avid North Walian watchers will have to wait to find out what happens.

Series producer Llyr Morus said: “It’s great to be able to film on location in such an atmospheric location as Caernarfon.

“The sea and coastal views of Anglesey, the town walls, the castle and the fantastic vibe in this historic town mean it’s fantastic for filming.

“A number of our main characters over the years have come from Gwynedd and so it’s a natural location for us to come to.

“The Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff Bay provides a very complete set, but there’s nothing like being out on location in the communities among the people who have inspired a number of our characters.”
