JASON UNDERWOOD scored a cracking unbeaten 89 and took three wickets as Pwllheli returned to winning ways at the expense of Dolgellau last weekend.

The result ensured the Llyn side have a 35-point cushion in second place in the North Wales League 1st XI First Division.

Dolgellau won the toss and decided to bat first at Parc Bodegroes, chalking up 182-8 in an overs-reduced affair.

Underwood led the way for the home attack with 3-50 off 11 overs, Syed Kaleem Aslam picking up 2-22.

Due to the weather, Pwllheli faced a reduced target of 175, and they got there for the loss of just two wickets off 33.2 overs to secure a 14-1 points success.

Craig Edwards (21) and Nicholas Butterworth (20) put on 34 for the first wicket, then Underwood and Morgan Murray-Williams added an unbroken partnership of 134 to seal the win.

Underwood’s 89 came off just 70 balls and included eight fours and five sixes.

Murray-Williams was happy to play the supporting role, finishing 38 not out.

Things did not go as well for Pwllheli seconds in the 2nd XI West Division.

Travelling to Dolgellau, the Llyn side were defeated by six wickets.

Put into bat, the visitors could only muster 95-6 off their 40 overs, mainstay Neil Williams doing his usual solid job opening the innings with a knock of 43.

Only Iwan Moore (11) and the extras (17) otherwise made double figures.

In response, Dolgellau ended on 96-4, Thea Williams collecting 2-19 off five overs and Osian Williams 2-36.

Pwllheli’s first team are without a game this Saturday, while the seconds host Dolgellau.

Caernarfon are back in action this Saturday when they entertain Bethesda in the 2nd XI West Division.

The Cofis are currently third in the table with four wins from their five matches.

Although 25 points behind Bangor in second spot, and 30 adrift of leaders Conwy, Caernarfon have played fewer games than both their rivals.

In their last outing on June 17, the Cofis lost their only fixtures to date when Bangor seconds ran out narrow 12-run winners at Coed Helen.

Before that Caernarfon had recorded victories over Holyhead, Abergele, St Asaph and Dolgellau.
