COLEG Meirion-Dwyfor’s Further Education Awards Ceremony 2017 was held on the Pwllheli campus with former pupil, poet, singer and Oxford graduate, Gwyneth Glyn, appearing as the guest speaker.

This prestigious event was held at the College in Penrallt, Pwllheli to celebrate the achievements of ten of its outstanding Further Education learners.

The awards recognised the students’ accomplishments not only in terms of academic achievement but also in terms of other merits such as hard work, extra effort and good attitude.

Each achiever received a Dragon trophy made by Construction, Engineering and Art and Design students and staff at the college’s Dolgellau campus.

Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor Principal Linda Wyn opened the Ceremony and the individual tutors then presented the awards to their nominated students. The prestigious award of Overall Student of the Year 2017 went to A level student Ceirion ab Owain.

Ceirion said: “I’m so proud and surprised to have won the overall award this year – it’s an unexpected honour!

“I have had a brilliant time at college studying A levels in maths, electronics and IT. The staff here are incredible, and I mean every single staff member and not just the tutors.

“I have developed great social skills during my time here too and I have developed the confidence to speak to anyone. I have been offered an apprenticeship with National Grid starting in the autumn and they are putting me through college at Aston University to become an Engineer Systems Operator.”

Next the Robin Llŷr Evans Scholarship was awarded to Non Mererid Jones, for her outstanding good attitude and for being a great ambassador for the college.

Liam currently volunteers at an old people’s residential care home and loves working there.

Angela Williams received the award for Access Learner of the Year, studying Access as an ideal route into nursing.

Morgan Murray-Williams received the award for Best Contribution to Sport. Morgan, who is studying IT, Business and Sports, plays cricket for Wales and Pwllheli and has also captained the College’s football team.
