Teenager Cassia on a high after national debut
PORTHMADOG’S Cassia Pike was on cloud nine after making her full debut for Wales Women last weekend.
Cassia, 16, a student at Ysgol Eifionydd, played 45 minutes in last Sunday’s B international against the Netherlands.
As the match was played behind closed doors, the FAW have not released the result, but did confirm Pike and her North Wales team-mate Elise Hughes had some game time.
Cassia, who plays for Liverpool, and Everton striker Elise were the only two North Walians included in Jayne Ludlow’s 26-strong squad to play two matches in Holland.
The Dutch won the first game, which involved the more recognised Wales players, 5-0 on the Saturday, while the second encounter was mainly for those with less experience.
Cassia, who played on the right wing, said: “I learnt a lot by playing with a great team and against a strong and physical side.
“It’s been a great learning curve and a massive opportunity for me to develop on my weaknesses throughout the camp.
“There’s plenty of positives to take away and that’s the main thing. I enjoyed playing with so much pride along with great supportive team mates.
“Before going on camp I wanted to step on the pitch and give my everything and I felt like I did that.”
Elise, who hails from Hawarden and took the field early in the second half, added: “I learnt a lot when I was away, it was an amazing experience and I’m pleased to be a part of it.
“I now intend to work hard to make sure I’m there again but I would also like to take what I learnt into my own age group and set new standards.”
