Stranded men plucked to safety from Crib Goch

-

TWO men were flown to safety during a four-hour rescue operation after becoming stranded on Crib Goch.

North Wales Police alerted Llanberis Mountain Rescue late Saturday afternoon.

Team rescuers were sent out from their base in Nant Peris to Llyn Llydaw by Land Rover. They then walked to the cliff on the south side of Crib Goch.

A coastguard rescue helicopter was also called out due to the difficult location of the men.

The crew was sent from St Athans in South Wales as their usual rescue helicopter was on another rescue.

The rescue happened at around 5.30pm on Saturday.

A spokesman for the Llanberis Mountain Rescue said: “The team managed to reach the two and roped them off the cliff, and up to the top of the ridge, just as the rescue helicopter arrived.

“The two men were winched on board the helicopter and dropped off at Nant Peris, leaving the team members on the mountain to enjoy the sunset and walk off.

“In total we used nine team members three team Land Rovers and one rescue helicopter.”

Meanwhile Rhyl lifeboat crew was called out four times in five days after a number of people found themselves in difficulties on the water.

In the latest incident two people on a boat became stranded after the vessel’s engine failed.

Rhyl’s RNLI crew were called at 8.18pm on Friday.

Those onboard the rigid inflatable boat were stranded off Presthaven Sands camp, Gronant.

An RNLI spokesperson said: “The boat was launched within six minutes and proceeded to the area, and immediately saw the casualty vessel.

“The people on board had an anchor down, but it was not holding in the deep water of the shipping channel.

“The lifeboat crew transferred one person on to their boat, and then set up a tow.

“The boat was successfully towed back to its launch site in Prestatyn, and the lifeboat crew then returned to station at 9.40pm.”

Between Tuesday and Wednesday RNLI volunteers were also called out to a missing speed boat, another boat suffering from engine failure and a medical evacuation.
