A stitch in time

SHARING her crafting journey with Craft Creations this week is Linda Simcox from Deganwy.

“I left Australia to fly to London wearing my first hand knitted pink dress and knee high black boots, very excited about my travels and feeling like the bees’ knees!

Stepping off the plane in Manilla I nearly died of heat. This signals the beginning of my craft journey.

“I married a local in Wales and astonished family and friends by taking my crotchet on honeymoon.

“We went to sea soon after on Shell tankers and I crocheted and knitted my way around the world.

“Becalmed in Geelong, Australia for a month due to a shoreside strike, I discovered knitting machines when shopping.

“Machine knitting provided most of my kids clothes as well as knits for family and friends.

“To this day I reminisce about the outfits that I made: from a jumper for a 6’5” friend with the longest arms to patterned suits, dresses and jumpers for children.

“Some garments knitted by me in the 1970s are still wearable today!”

“Machine embroidery followed. The day I purchased my first machine, my 15 year old daughter and I argued all the way home about who was going to be the first one on the machine.

“Today a large part of my life is filled with knitting, crotchet and machine embroidery.

“I make goods for family and friends, as well as for sale in Conwy Art and Craft, the Rhos on Sea Country Market and through my Facebook page, Koala Kolours.

“Craft projects accompany me wherever I go, I can always produce some yarn and a hook or needles. I love it, it is a part of who I am and I would be lost without it.”

Linda also makes pillows for post-breast cancer surgery. She runs Paradise Pillows, and the moon-shaped pillows have been designed and especially shaped to relieve pressure on the under arm and breast region following surgery. ● For more information please visit the website: paradisepillows.co.uk or Twitter @ParadisePillows
