Canaries aim to build on win

Telford next on Saturday after Cof is beat Rams

-

CAERNARFON Town take on National League North outfit AFC Telford at The Oval in their latest pre-season clash this Saturday (2.30pm).

The Canaries will be looking to repeat the fine performance which delivered a 2-1 win at home to Northern Premier League Division One North side Ramsbottom United last weekend.

Clive Williams made his first appearance of pre-season and the club stalwart certainly looked in fine fettle after his lay-off, partnering Ryan Williams at the centre of the back four.

And recent signing Gareth Evans continued his ever-improving form, the former Colwyn Bay and Llandudno man at the heart of much that was good about Town’s play.

Darren Thomas was unlucky to see his goalbound effort deflected inches wide, while Jamie Breese was left frustrated when he sliced his effort off target from eight yards after good work by Danny Brookwell.

It took until the 38th minute for the next worthwhile effort, Thomas latching on to an excellent Joe Williams delivery. The Cofis magician left his marker in his wake before somehow slicing his low cross behind the onrushing Breese when it seemed a strike on goal was imminent.

The second half was more of the same as Town continued to press forward, with Nathan Williams missing the target after a low effort and Brookwell twice testing the Rams glovesman.

The visitors got the ball in the net on the hour and while disappointed to see this effort ruled offside, they went ahead minutes later through an excellent finish by Tom Williams.

The Canaries struck back immediately with a goal from the top drawer, Jay Gibbs providing a sublime pass into the path of Breese, and the striker finding the far corner with a great finish.

Both sides went looking for the winner and, with three minutes left, Caernarfon-born Ryan Williams had the final say, picking the ball up on the edge of the Rams penalty area and placing it into the top corner of the net.
