Underwood hits 158 in big Pwllheli victory
JASON UNDERWOOD hit a stunning career best 158 not out as Pwllheli romped to a huge win over Carmel & District in the North Wales Cricket League Division One.
Underwood’s whirlwind knock came off just 89 balls and included 16 fours and nine sixes in his team’s 293-run triumph – one of the biggest victories in league history.
Pwllheli won the toss and chose to bat, rattling up a mammoth 368-3 off their 50 overs, Craig Edwards (58) and Chris Moore (61) putting on 112 for the first wicket.
Underwood and Syed Kaleem Aslam (44 no) came together on 266-3 and added a rapid, undefeated 102 for the fourth wicket.
On a day where low scores were the norm in the league, Pwllheli proved the glorious exception.
Carmel were then skittled out for a paltry 75, Morgan Murray-Williams bagging 3-23, Keiran Roberts 2-3 and Owen Reilly 2-9.
The spoils went 15-0 in favour of second-place Pwllheli, who cut the gap on leaders Northop to 15 points.
It was quite the opposite for winless Pwllheli seconds who were hammered 14-1 by table-toppers Bangor in the 2nd XI West Division.
Pwll were all out for just 47, extras their top contributor with 13 and only Ioan Roberts (10) making double figures before the citizens breezed to 48-1 in 10 overs, Roberts claiming the sole wicket to fall.
This Saturday sees Pwllheli firsts visit Conwy in Division One, while the seconds are without a fixture.
Caernarfon, who did not have a game last Saturday, return to action with a home clash against Dolgellau in the 2nd XI West Division.
