Tragedy struck in Llanbedrog:

FOUR men have been charged in con­nec­tion with the fa­tal shoot­ing of a teenager.

Peter Robert Col­well died in the car park of the Ship Inn, Llanbedrog, near Pwll­heli, on Sun­day, Fe­bru­ary 5.

Last Wednesday, po­lice charged four men, aged in their early 20s, with firearms of­fences.

The men, who were known to the 18-year-old, were orig­i­nally arrested at the scene fol­low­ing Mr Col­well’s death on sus­pi­cion of mur­der.

They will ap­pear be­fore mag­is­trates on Au­gust 31.

Se­nior In­ves­ti­gat­ing Of­fi­cer Det Insp Ger­wyn Thomas at North Wales Po­lice said: “Fol­low­ing a com­pre­hen­sive in­ves­ti­ga­tion and reg­u­lar con­sul­ta­tion with the Crown Pros­e­cu­tion Ser­vice, four lo­cal men, aged in their early 20s, and known to Peter Col­well, have been charged with fire- arms of­fences. There was in­suf­fi­cient ev­i­dence to pro­ceed with any other charges and Peter’s fam­ily, who con­tinue to be sup­ported by po­lice fam­ily li­ai­son officers, have been in­formed of this lat­est devel­op­ment.

“Our thoughts re­main with them. As the mat­ter is now be­fore the court, it would be in­ap­pro­pri­ate to add any­thing fur­ther at this time.”

Fol­low­ing Mr Col­well’s death, his fam­ily paid trib­ute to the teenager. They said: “Peter was a pop­u­lar young man who loved fish­ing and field sports.

“He left col­lege last sum­mer and went up north to work as a boy and came back a fine young man. He will be sadly missed by his mother, fa­ther, fam­ily and many friends.

“He loved his dogs and had just started a job that he wanted more than any­thing.

“We as a fam­ily feel that we have lost a beau­ti­ful soul.”
