Meet the BBQ chef cooking up a storm on the food scene
MEET the Caernarfon man who has been cooking up a storm on social media.
Chris Roberts is so passionate about food he shares his mouth-watering food pictures, videos and recipes with thousands of followers on Facebook.
The 32-year-old barbecues in various locations across North Wales with his dog Roxy. He has cooked outdoors in Snowdonia, Caernarfon and Llanddwyn Island and uses local ingredients in all of his videos.
Chris said: “It’s hard to say my favourite place as I’m so lucky to have amazing locations on my doorstep. Ben Twthill in Caernarfon is probably my favourite, though.
“I cooked in Porth Iago by Aberdaron a few weeks ago when I was filming a fish video. It was blowing 40mph and everything was flying but it was still beautiful and fun. Then in the afternoon I went to Clegir by Llanberis to film a kebab video. I like the variables of cooking outside.”
One video of Chris cooking his own burger recipe has been viewed more than 230,000 times.
His growing popularity online prompted him to start his own food festival called ‘Chrisfest’ over August Bank Holiday weekend.
The chef cooked for more than 50 people and, due to high demand, he is hoping to expand the festival next year.
He added: “I’m going to expand it, but I’ll be keeping the same amazing intimate vibe. “I loved everything about Chrisfest 2017. “I’m just going with the flow with my cooking and I’ve got a few big things happening in 2018!”
Chris is inspired by Argentine-style cooking and his biggest cooking influences are Francis Mallmann, Keith Floyd and Tomos Parry from Anglesey.
He said: “I think I have my own cooking style. My fave dish is Lamb al Asador. It’s how the Welsh Gauchos in Patagonia cook.”
