AGEING WELL: Age Cymru Gwynedd a Mon have teamed up with Communitie­s First and Gwynedd Council to run an ageing well project for over-50s in Bangor and Caernarfon. The aim is to encourage older people to come for a cuppa and a chat, and to take part in activities if they so wish. For example there are gentle chair exercises in the scout hut in Maesincla, Caernarfon every Wednesday from 10am onwards, a computer skills course every Friday from 10am onwards, whereby people can bring their own devices to learn on, or use ones provided for them. IT CLASSES: Age Cymru Gwynedd a Môn is providing IT classes for older people (over 50) free of charge at the Scout Hut, Maesincla at 10am, every Friday. ARFON WI: In July members enjoyed a talk by Louise Jones about her involvemen­t with the Paralympic­s, where her brother was a prize-winner in the Archery section. Although there is no official meeting in August, members of the sketching group and the crafts group continued to meet every week. Members now look forward to the autumn season, and their next meeting will be on September 13, when Judy Corbett will describe “Restoratio­n adventures at Gwydir Castle”. They will also be going to an event arranged by the county federation - “Bollywood” in Bethel. Arfon meet on the second Wednesday of each month, at 7.30 in the Institute Buildings, and guests are always welcome. OPEN DOORS: On September 8 the Institute, Pavilion Hill, Caernarfon, will be open from 10am until noon as part of the Open Doors Scheme. Councillor­s will be on hand to give a tour of the Institute. ALBERT GIGS: In the 90s the Albert was famed for its Thursday night music events, which saw well-known bands appear before legions of fans. It was a big loss to the Caernarfon music scene when Thursday nights at the Albert ended. Now, original promoter Rhys Mwyn has resurrecte­d the Albert gig nights. On Thursday, Sept 7, three bands will appear at the venue: Caernarfon band White Ether, with their lively punk-influenced set of original songs, along with Rhyl based punk band Spam Javelin and Bangor’s James P.M. Phillips.
