FUW’s cancer fund donation
● Caernarfonshire Farmers’ Union of Wales member Lowri Thomas presented Cancer Research Wales with a cheque worth £500 at the National Eisteddfod. The money was raised during the FUW’s farmhouse breakfast week in January at Meillionydd Bach, Rhoshirwaun. FUW Caernarfonshire CEO Gwynedd Watkin said: “The whole family including Huw Thomas (Lowri’s husband) and his brother Dei, made a tremendous effort to raise over £2,000 of which £500 was donated to Cancer Research Wales. The remaining £1,500+ was added to the President’s chosen charity BHF Cymru. I am very grateful to them for hosting the breakfast, which allowed us to raise such a fantastic amount of money. Cancer affects so many families throughout Wales, and almost everyone you talk to today knows someone who is or has suffered from Cancer. The tremendous work that is done by Cancer Research Wales is appreciated by all and we are glad that we have been able to contribute towards their work,” said Lowri Thomas. “We’d like to thank everyone that came to the breakfast and to all those who couldn’t make it but still contributed either financially or by sponsoring the food as did many many local businesses,” she added. Cancer Research Wales Finance Manager Enid Lewis, who accepted the cheque, said: “Cancer Research Wales would like to thank Lowri Thomas and her family for this kind donation. These funds will support pioneering projects which aim to prevent cancer, improve treatments and hopefully bring us that one step closer to a cure. We are proud to guarantee that all money raised is spent on cancer research at Welsh hospitals and universities – research that is only possible because of the fantastic support that we receive throughout Wales.” Lowri Thomas would like to thank the following for sponsoring the breakfast produce: Llaethdy Llŷn; Carwyn & Carys Evans, Botwnnog; Llŷn Eggs Pencaerau; Hirdre Isaf’s Happy Eggs from Tudweiliog; South Caernarfon Creamery; Cig Ceirion, Sarn; Clwc Clwc, Rhoshirwaen; R.H.
