Man admits killing after single punch took dad’s life

A NORTH Wales man has admitted killing a ‘gentle giant’ with a single punch outside a Bangor nightclub.

Kieran Terence Roberts landed the blow on Esinkumo (Henry) Ayabowei (pictured) outsideout­side the Peep club, knockingck­ing him to the ground.

The dad-of-two diedd in hospital the follow-ing day.

Roberts had been facing a murder charge but his plea of guilty to manslaught­err was accepted by thee prosecutio­n at Moldold Crown Court on Tuesday.ay.

Prosecutor Paul Lewisewis QCQC said the situation had been discussed with the CPS and the police and the family of Mr Ayabowei had been spoken to.

He said: “This is essentiall­y an unlawful killing as a result of a single punch by the defendant.”

The prosecutio­n had previously said in writing that it would accept a manslaught­er plea and he now formally did so, he added. Judge Paul Thomas said that October 2 had been set aside for the trial and that date would now be the sentencing hearing. He ordered a pre-sentence report which he saidsa should consider the issue o of dangerousn­ess only. In a statement, the family said: “Henry was a loving partner to Melicia, a devoted and caring father to Tianna and Emelia and uncle to Kian.

“He always put his family first, sometimes to the detriment of his own interests.

“As can be seen by the many tributes afforded to Henry, he was loved and respected by all who knew him.

“Although we are all devastated to lose Henry at such a young age, and that our lives will never be the same, we as a family will not allow this senseless act to destroy the future of his beloved girls.

“Whilst a dad’s love may never be completely replaced, we will do all in our power to give our time, effort and emotions to ensure the best possible future for his girls under the circumstan­ces.”

“When family commitment­s allowed, Henry loved nothing better than to spend time on the football pitch, whether playing five-aside, or for one of the local football teams.

“He was a fervent supporter of Arsenal FC and would occasional­ly attend a match with his friends.”

Mr Ayabowei had played for Llangefni, Llanfairpw­ll and Trearddur Bay football teams.
