Taste for adventure and fantastic food
ZIP World has opened its Adventure Terminal at Penrhyn Quarry - creating 32 new jobs.
The adventure business has invested £3.3m in the 16-month project to create the three-storey building overlooking the famous slate quarry – complete with viewing platform.
Thrill seekers will enter to check in and kit up for the fastest zip line in the world, Velocity.
There is also a timeline showing the history of the quarry, developed in partnership with Welsh Slate and the National Slate Museum.
The heart of the building is the 150cover Blondin Restaurant.
Packed with local produce, the menu is developed in partnership with renowned North Wales chef Bryn Williams.
The top floor is The Gallery, named after the gallery formations that appear in a working slate quarry and are visible from the terrace.
Co-founder of Zip World, Sean Taylor, said: “We deliver an exceptional guest experience in adventure and now we’re bringing our energy and passion to food and events.
“The building, the food and the people all celebrate our love for North Wales.”
The building has been developed by architects WM Design and Welsh builders WRW, with Penrhyn Quarry heather and Cwt y Bugail dark blue grey slate from Welsh Slate incorporated in the exterior cladding.
The Blondin Restaurant takes its name from The Blondin, an aerial ropeway named after 19th-century tightrope walker Charles Blondin, that was developed to transport slate in open quarries in North Wales, including Penrhyn.
