‘People need to understand how sad this is’

-

READERS of our sister paper the Daily Post reacted with anger to to the record £160,000 sale of an Abersoch beach hut.

On the Daily Post Facebook page, Chris Georgenson-Jones said: “People should understand how sad this is.

“How damaging it is for the Welsh language and how damaging it is for local Welsh people to be unable to afford local housing prices, being driven up by tourists who spend very little time here.”

Lynne Jackson said: “It happens all over the UK where there are places of outstanding natural beauty – Cornwall, The Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, to name but a few.

“There really is no answer to the problem as long as we live in a free market. Sad but true.”

Anne Roberts wrote: “How ridiculous is that all the purchasers have for all their ridiculous spend is a ‘shed’. Far better to help the local economy by using B&B or holiday cottages caravan sites.”

Terrie Scope said: “There should be a cap on these beach huts, sell them for what they are worth £1000 max.”

Pat A Wynbo Griffith wrote: “I’m Welsh through and through, however if I owned it I would certainly sell it to the highest bidder regardless who they were.”

Elizabeth Fletcher said: “The world’s gone mad! Anyone want to buy my shed? 6x4, enclosed 30x40garden, three resident hens so three free meals a day.”

Heulwen Williams said: “Disgusting they should not be there anyway, they are a blot on the landscape.”
