Celts on fire in victory over the Cannons
CAERNARFON Celts Under18s basketball team ran out comfortable 84-37 winners in their latest clash.
Taking on Conwy Cannons U18s last Tuesday, Celts started strongly and, with Jacob Wright scoring two three-pointers in the first quarter, they established a 20-10 lead.
Cannons were being closed down well by the intense Celts man-to-man defence and by half-time the Caernarfon outfit were leading by 35 points to 12.
A brace of three-pointers each by Wright and Rhun Hughes in the third quarter underlined the Celts’ scoring prowess as they took a lead of 60-21 into the final session.
Despite a late rally from the Cannons in the final quarter, the Celts ran out comfortable winners 84-37.
Celts MVP and top scorer with 19 points was Wright. Hughes also contributed an impressive 18 points.
Last Thursday saw Caernarfon Celts seniors welcome Mold Magic B to the Brailsford Centre, Bangor, for the second leg of their NWBA Senior Cup quarter-final.
As in the first leg, the Celts took an early lead of 13-0 in a dynamic opening five minutes. Disciplined man-toman defence meant the Magic could not find an easy lane to the basket and were kept to four points in the first quarter.
The second quarter contin- ued in the same vein with the Celts’ passing and movement on offence making it difficult for the Magic defence to react as the hosts extended their lead to 37-13 by half time.
Despite a spirited second half from the Magic, the Celts continued to dominate, with some excellent passing leading to a number of impressive baskets to make sure of the win. The final score was Celts 84 Mold Magic B 30
Celts MVP once more was Jacob Wright, sharing the topscorer accolade with Niall Williams (23 points).
