Penrhyndeudraeth put up a fight but are beaten by Boro

-

PENRHYNDEUDRAETH put up a strong performance but were unable to prevent unbeaten Conwy Borough returning to the Welsh Alliance Division One summit with a 2-0 victory at Maes-y-Parc.

Now undefeated in 10 league outings, Boro have won all seven of their away matches. They are back in action at home to Barmouth & Dyffryn this Saturday before welcoming Nantlle Vale to Y Morfa next Wednesday (7.30pm).

Penrhyn conceded to Boro on 18 minutes when Sion Hogan fired home. Darren Gowans went close to a second on 23 minutes but his shot clipped the bar.

After 32 minutes Penrhyn forced Boro’s keeper into a decent save. Right on half time Borough had a massive slice of luck when Penrhyn’s Carwyn Price saw his effort loop onto the crossbar.

In the 56th minute Boro’s Jamie Roberts rattled the bar, and as Corrig McGonigle challenged the keeper and headed home, the assistant’s flag went up for offside.

Conwy’s second arrived on 72 minutes when the outstanding Jamie Roberts fired home from 20 yards.

McGonigle won a late penalty but saw his kick saved by Caron Hughes.

Nantlle Vale crashed 8-0 at Llandudno Albion.

Dave Maddock hit a hat-trick, Anthony Marshall and Stephen Cheung two apiece and Adam Hold completed the rout. Nantlle played well in patches and struck the woodwork twice, but fell apart in the second half after trailing just 2-0 at the break.
