Bro aim to keep their winning form going

-

BRO Ffestiniog will look to begin 2018 as they ended 2017 this Saturday – with a victory.

Last weekend the Quarrymen edged a 10-7 success over visitors Dolgellau in a closefought Division One North clash at Dolawel.

This Saturday they will look to build on that result when they visit next-tobottom Bethesda.

A hotly disputed penalty, converted by Bro stand-off Huw James only 13 minutes into last weekend’s enthralling local derby encounter on a wet and slippery Dolawel surface, turned out to be the wafer-thin difference between the two teams.

The penalty affected Dolgellau’s composure and Bro capitalised. Three minutes later, Bro No8 Dewi James broke deep into Dolgellau territory and found second row Dylan Daniels in support. Davies passed to flanker Huw Parry who slid in close to the posts. Huw James converted to give Bro a 10-0 cushion.

Dolgellau dominated the second period but it took 15 minutes of solid pressure before they got themselves on the scoreboard.

A clean catch from flanker Iwan Evans at a five-metre lineout saw a forward drive that took hooker Geraint Evans over for the score. Centre Henri Roberts converted from the left touchline to make the score 10-7.

With Bro tiring, Dolgellau full-back Jac Roberts and replacement Dylan Llewelyn almost breached down the left touchline.

However, clear chances were few and ill-discipline cost the visitors dear at crucial stages.

Bro held on to a hardearned victory, Dolgellau having to settle for a losing bonus point.
