The food bank serves the whole Arfon district from Abergwyngregyn to Llanllyfni and Pontllyfni. AGEING WELL: Age Cymru Gwynedd a Mon have teamed up with Communities First and Gwynedd Council to run an ageing well project for over-50s in Bangor and Caernarfon. The aim is to encourage older people to come for a cuppa and a chat, and to take part in activities if they so wish. For example there are gentle chair exercises in the scout hut in Maesincla, Caernarfon every Wednesday from 10am onwards, a computer skills course every Friday from 10am onwards, whereby people can bring their own devices to learn on, or use ones provided for them. IT CLASSES: Age Cymru Gwynedd a Môn is providing IT classes for older people (over 50) free of charge at the Scout Hut, Maesincla at 10am, every Friday. GWYNEDD COUNCIL OPUS: can support people aged 25 and over on their journey to work, volunteering and training. This support includes initial one to one meetings, Work Star assessments and completion of an action plan, Group work activities to improve confidence and self-esteem, Training opportunities to improve skills, Volunteering and work placements to gain practical work experience, Job search and CV writing skills, and Interview techniques. Age Cymru Gwynedd a Môn is seeking volunteers who are able to help out with the running of both its 39 Pool Street Caernarfon shop (Monday to Saturday) and in the Café it runs at the Caernarfon Criminal Justice Centre, Llanberis Road, (Monday to Friday). (Any relevant training will be provided as required and any travel costs reimbursed.) Eight amateur curry chefs will compete for a £50 prize as they battle anonomously to impress the audience, who will have their own score cards. Again, this is a bring your own booze evening. And then in March, the annual Gala Dinner will be held in Coleg Menai, Llandrillo, with celebrity chef, former student Hywel Griffith. Tickets for this event are £30 per head, for a three course meal and canapes and sparkling wine on arrival. There is a discount for groups of 8 who book a table in advance - this will be £25 per head. The Festival’s fundraising events are vitally important, as the organiser strive to ensure that the Festival remains free for all who attend. To achieve this, they must raise more than £25,000 - so any support is gladly received!
