Cofis cruise to victory over Anglesey newbies
CAERNARFON Celts Under-16s pulled off an emphatic victory when they travelled to Holyhead to play a North Wales Junior League game against newly-formed Ynys Môn Celts.
As this was only Ynys Môn’s second competitive game it was always going to be a considerable challenge for them against the strong, well established Caernarfon outfit.
With the balcony packed with supporters and providing a great atmosphere for both sides to compete in, it was Caernarfon who settled best into their usual game as they surged into a 31-9 lead in the first quarter.
Caernarfon continued with their free-flowing offence in the second quarter and were able to produce some fantastic passing basketball, the first half ending Ynys Môn Celts 17 Caernarfon 55.
A similar effort from the Caernarfon squad in the second half ensured that the home team could not establish a foothold in the game as the visitors ran out eventual winners by 121 to 28.
Caernarfon MVP was Sean Jones, who also top-scored with an impressive 42-point haul. Caernarfon centre David Sawczuk also contributed 24 points with a dominant display, his rebounding ability controlling the boards at both ends.
The senior game against Mold last Thursday was a victim of the weather and had to be cancelled. It will now be played this Thursday at the Brailsford Centre, Bangor.
All the junior sides were in action this week, Celts U16s welcome Ynys Môn Celts to Arfon Leisure Centre, Caernarfon, tonight (Wednesday).
