Porthmadog hope to end spell in wilderness

-

PORTHMADOG FC hope to return to action tonight after an unprecedented 39-day period without a competitive match when Holyhead Hotspur are the scheduled visitors to Y Traeth (7.30pm).

Craig Papirnyk’s side have not played since February 3, when they crashed 6-0 away to Airbus UK Broughton.

Four consecutive postponements due to the weather have seen Porthmadog dip to ninth in the Huws Gray Alliance League and facing a fixtures backlog with games in hand on all the teams above them.

It has been a difficult time for the players and the management team, keeping fit and preparing for contests that do not materialise.

The club was keeping its fingers crossed for some dry weather this week before tonight’s planned visit of Hotspur.

Port and Holyhead have already met twice this season, with the lslanders coming out on top on both occasions.

Way back in August the two clashed in an MG Cup tie with Hotspur winning a thrilling contest 5-3.

Then three weeks later in a league fixture Holyhead triumphed 3-0 on their own ground in a game which was played in gale force winds and horizontal rain.

While Porthmadog have suffered serial cancellations, 10th-place Holyhead have been more fortunate with the weather but are on a poor run of form lately, having won only once in their last six games.
