Arfon Ladies are in charge as league play-offs beckon

THE business end of the season has been reached in the Axis Precision Gwynedd and Anglesey Winter Netball League.

In Division One, the top four will now play off for the title, while the lower quartet compete to avoid the wooden spoon.

The latest round of matches, played last Wednesday, saw tabletoppe­rs Arfon Ladies defeat Arfon Celts 24-15. Players of Match: Arfon Ladies - Llinos Dobbins-Hughes; Arfon Celts - Amy Evans. Tim o Walis edged a fine 21-19 victory over Pwllheli.

This one was tight all the way, standing 11-11 at halfway and 17-16 to Walis entering the last. PoM: Walis - Malan Jones; Pwllheli - Hannah Kings. Another close battle saw Moniars squeeze past Holyhead 27-25. PoM: Moniars - Mared Jones; Holyhead - Sophie Begley. Dyffryn Penygroes beat Subway Warriors 32-19. PoM: Dyffryn - Beca Llwyd; Warriors - Catrin Rosewarne. Division Two were due to play their final matches last night (Tuesday).

Runaway champions Menai Mavericks made it 14 victories in a row last week with a 52-20 thrashing of Genod-y-Dyffryn. PoM: Mavericks - Claire Billing; Genod - Lois Jones. Pwllheli Wildcats were pushed hard by Porthmadog but won 28-23. PoM: Wildcats - Kirsty Mallen; Port - Catrin Williams. Llangefni outclassed Sombreros 30-4. PoM: Llangefni - Elin Salter; Sombreros - Swyn Mai Edwards.
