Evening promoting bilingualism

-

YSGOL Uwchradd Tywyn is one of two schools in Wales selected to undertake a project to promote the Welsh Government’s ambitious incentive of creating one million Welsh speakers by the year 2050. With 600,000 people already able to speak Welsh, and 52% of the world’s population bilingual – it can be done – but only with the help of the whole community.

A ‘Vision-Sharing Evening’ (pictured) was held to which all locals in the Dysynni area had been invited, as they fully appreciate that in Tywyn, they need the support, and the will, of their community to achieve anything worthwhile.

A crowd of over 120 business people, parents and interested Welsh learners and experts alike, enjoyed excellent food with entertainment. The emphasis of the evening was definitely on encouraging bilingualism in the school and community through appreciation of their local culture and the school were pleased to hear that according to many who attended, the evening was inspirational.
