MARGARET ANNE BARBER: Formerly of 44 Ffordd Mela, Pwllheli, died on February 17 at Plas y Don Care Home, Pwllheli, aged 97 years. Anne, the only daughter of Cady Jones, was born March 1, 1920 in Pwllheli, where she spent mopst of her long life. She served in the ATS as a cook between 1940 and 1943. She met Jack Barber, a bombardier in the RA, and they married in 1943/ Anne had three daughters, Jackie, Val and Catherine, but was sadly pre-deceased by her two elder daughters and Jack. She was an active person who loved travelling and being involved in the community through the chapel and her roles in the British Legion and the RNA. When family duties permitted she worked initially as a cook and later as a clerk. Fiercely independen­t, she lived in her home for over 57 years until failing eyesight and mobility prevailed. The funeral was on Friday, March 2. The public service was at Ala Road English Chapel, followed by interment at Denio Cemetery, Pwllheli. The service was officiated by Rev W Bryn Williams, Pwllheli. The organist was Kathleen Prince. The tribute was by Rev W Bryn Williams. Bearers were David Evans, Emlyn Roberts, Gareth Jones. Family mourners were Catherine and David Evans (dayghter and son-in-law), Richard Bibby (son-in-law), Jo and Chris Craig (granddaugh­ter and grandson-inlaw), Ben and Rachel Evans (grandson and granddaugh­ter in law). Flowers were by family only with donations accepted in memory of Anne to Plas y Don League of Friends. Unavoldabl­y absent was Daniel Bibby (grandson). Funeral refreshemt­ns were at the chapel vestry. Funeral arrangemen­ts were by GD Roberts and Son, Chapel of Rest, Pwllheli. WI: The March 6 meeting, chaired by President Daphne Jones, was addressed by guest speaker Naomi Jones, Head of Education and Communicat­ion, Snowdonia National Park who gave a talk on Hedd Wyn and the new museum at his home at Ysgwrn, Trawsfynyd­d, illustrate­d by slides, letters and photos, giving an insight into the great loss suffered with the death of this talent in the first World War. Dilys Williams gave the vote of thanks and the tea hostesses were Ann and Helen Owen. The raffle prize given by Sandra Jones was won by Helen Owen. In the following business meeting,matters arising and the book club and pilates were discussed. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 10 at 7pm. at the Ala Road Chapel Vestry when Wendy Blackwell and Sharon Mears will give a talk and demonstrat­ion on ‘Apples, Alpacas, Jams etc.’
