Nefyn into final thanks to Jones’ last-gasp goal

-

IFAN JONES’ 119th-minute winner put Nefyn United through to the Gwynedd League Safeflue Shield final with a 3-2 extra-time victory over Llangoed & District.

The Penwaig will now face Gwalchmai in the final.

Nefyn started well and could have taken the lead on four minutes when keeper Rhys Owen fumbled a Tristian Parry attempt.

It remained 0-0 up to half time, but a minute into the second period Llangoed took the lead through a Mark Dunn own goal.

Within a minute the Penwaig were on level terms when good work from Dunn set up Michael Williams to score.

Nefyn were creating chances at regular intervals but visiting keeper Owen was in inspired form.

United eventually took the lead on 65 minutes when in-form Dunn converted a penalty following a foul on Williams.

Three minutes later Llangoed levelled from a free kick through defender Carl Pritchard, who benefited from some disappointing home defending.

So it went to extra time, and only the heroics of keeper Owen denied Nefyn a winner before Jones popped up to clinch it, poking the ball home from close range. ● Sion Parry reached 50 goals for the season after scoring twice in Llanystumdwy’s 3-0 Gwynedd League win over Talysarn Celts, Rob Griffiths also on target. ● In the Bob Owen Memorial Trophy second round, Waunfawr won 2-1 at Menai Bridge Tigers thanks to a Ioan Gwynedd double. Bontnewydd surprisingly lost 2-1 to a Beaumaris Town outfit they had whipped 6-1 the previous weekend. Rob Daniels notched Bont’s consolation.
