FLORIDA HOLIDAY TAKEAWAY FROM TV SHOW

SAYS WOMAN WHO WON USA BREAK ON TV SHOW

- Sarah Hodgson

A HEALTH care worker has told of her shock after winning a trip to Florida on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

Viewers were shown a picture of a sofa in mystery locations in Wales and Northern Ireland and told to get down there if they knew where it was.

Hundreds recognised the Welsh location as Porthmadog Football Club’s Y Traeth ground and flocked there in a bid to win a seat on the plane as part of the ITV show’s “sofa watch” segment. Lauren Holford was picked at random to compete for the holiday to Orlando and tickets to the show’s season finale.

The 23 year-old went up against a contestant from Northern Ireland in a game of “gnome, paper, scissors” – and won.

She told the Herald’s sister paper, the Daily Post: “It was just a normal Saturday night for us, the fire was burning and me and my fiance Jamie were watching television.

“As soon as I saw it (Y Traeth), both myself and my part- ner looked at each other, put our shoes on and ran out the house. It took us around five minutes to get there. I was stood behind the sofa and the team said the number called out only had five seconds to get to the front.

“I was so shocked when my number was called – watching it back I pushed a few people out of the way.”

Ms Holford, who has lived in Porthmadog since she was nine, will jet out to the USA tomorrow with Jamie, her stepson and her mum.

“I have never been to Florida so I’m so excited to go and feel so lucky. I want to thank everyone for their kind messages and congratulations, it really means a lot,” she said.

Around 8.6m people tuned in to Saturday’s show, with Declan Donnelly presenting solo after co-star Ant ● McPartlin cancelled all work commitments for the “foreseeable future”.

Simon Brooks, chairman of Porthmadog Town Council, said: “I’m so pleased somebody from Porthmadog won the holiday, what a lovely thing for her. “The show was really good fun, and the atmosphere at the football club was fantastic. I’d like to thank Porthmadog Football Club for arranging them to come – none of us had any idea it was happening.”
