Lois on target again in a fine victory for hosts

-

PWLLHELI made a welcome return to winning ways as they defeated visitors Denbigh Town 3-1 in the North Wales Women’s Football League.

Both sides were struggling for players and initially ended up fielding 10 apiece.

Denbigh were first to strike when debutant Carla Rizzi netted after the travellers broke through the home defence.

Pwll came back fighting and piled on the pressure, working their way up the field slowly. Their persistence paid off when Delyth Jones was on hand to tap in after she capitalised on a rebound off the Denbigh keeper.

Good play followed from both sides. Denbigh threatened the Pwllheli goal, but the home defence had sharpened up and proved too strong to pass.

Then a long ball up front released Pwllheli top-scorer Lois Thomas, who chipped over a defender to leave herself oneon-one with the keeper.

Despite stumbling, Thomas managed to get the ball into the net for her 29th goal of the season.

Only Northop Hall’s goalmachine Laura Pennington (45) has netted more than Thomas this term.

Both teams could feel positive at half time. Pwllheli were glad to be in front, but knew Denbigh were far from finished.

The second half started off well for the away team as they created chances and made the Pwllheli stopper work.

The home team were also carving out some openings and still it was not clear which way the game would go.

With half-an-hour left, another player turned up for Pwllheli which proved useful as 10 minutes later they lost another through injury.

In the 65th minute Sioned Jones managed to slip the ball past the keeper to make it 3-1.

Elsewhere, Bangor City made it six straight victories with a 2-0 home triumph over Bethel.

Lexi Crawley and Cerys Gadd delivered the goals for Ethan Ray’s side, who remain fourth in the table. Amlwch Town travelled to Kinmel Bay with only 10 players and gave their all, despite crashing to a 9-0 defeat.

Charlotte Miliziano (2), Sarah Massey, Lucy Perry, Niomi Taylor (2), Charlotte Pardoe (2) and Francesca Acharya shared the goals for the home team.

Rhyl Development picked up their second win of the season with a 2-0 result against bottom side Bala Town, Catrin Davies with a goal in each half.

Airbus closed the gap on leaders Northop Hall to two points, but having played three games, more after thrashing Prestatyn 5-1. Laura Borley pocketed a hat-trick for the second time in a week, Mari Edwards netted twice and Ellie Sandiford replied for the visitors.
