Mavericks bring home spoils in hard-fought island derby

MENAI Mavericks were in top form when they faced Holyhead in an island derby within Division One of the Axis Precision Gwynedd and Anglesey Netball League.

Mavericks won the match 34-22, having led just 6-5 after the first quarter, but scoring 11 goals in the second and 12 in the last.

Player of the match for Mavericks was regular highachiev­er Collette Charker, while Cara Williams was named best for Holyhead.

Primos continued their great start, seeing off Pwllheli 22-19 to make it back-to-back victories.

Leading just 18-16 entering the last, the winners saw the job through. PoM: Primos - Claire Coles-Williams; Pwllheli - Cerys Jones. Table-toppers Arfon Celts outscored Tim o Walis 26-18, having been in command throughout.PoM: Arfon - Alaw Davies; Walis - Heledd Davies.

The closest battle in Division Two saw Arfon Celts defeat Pwllheli Wildcats 27-21.

Although Arfon stood strong at 18-8 come the midway stage, Wildcats rallied well in the second half, winning the last session 8-3.

Dolgellau dished out a 31-4 thrashing on Porthmadog.

Pwllheli Subway Warriors led Dreigiau Brynrefs just 6-4 at half time, but finished up comfortabl­e 18-10 victors.
