Pride and pratfalls
CAERNARFON’S young farmers made home advantage count at a county rally that celebrated everything that is good about the YFC movement.
Clubs from across Snowdonia gathered at Garth Farm, Llanrug, for a day of pratfalls and slapdash, mixed in with creativity and skill.
Caernarfon were determined to do well and, after a day of running frantically between competitions, the club duly claimed Eryri YFC’s 2018 rally title
As well as lifting the NFU Shield as overall rally winners, Caernarfon also collected £100 prize money from NFU Cymru.
Joint rally chairman Gwyn Jones said the club, as hosts, had worked hard to ensure that all members and spectators had a great day at Garth.
“We are really grateful to everybody who came to support us,” he said. “It was a great day of competing – and a great dance at night.”
Runners-up on the day were Llanrwst YFC, the club having dominated the tug-of-war and singing competitions.
In third place, just four points adrift, was Ysbyty Ifan YFC, which topped the crafts section.
Winning the rally sign trophy, for their hot air balloon cut-out at Bryncir Mart, was Dyffryn Madog YFC.
Sioned Jones, who shared the rally chairman’s role with Gwyn, said the county was grateful to all those who had helped make the day a success.
Sponsors provided £3,000 for the event, with NFU Mid Gwynedd and Coleg Glynllifon among the contributors.
Also chipping in were machinery firms Jones Bros, Humphreys & Son Plant Hire, Gwynedd Farm Machinery and WH Jones Plant Services.
“The rally is the highlight of the year and our main income stream for the next 12 months,” said Sioned. “We would like to thank everyone for all their support and to Gwyn, Rhian and family at Garth for their warm welcome.”
