Man held after driver suffers serious injuries in multi-vehicle smash

A MAN has been arrested following a three-vehicle crash which left a motorist with serious injuries.

The 49-year-old was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink driving and failing to stop following the crash on the A4244 in Brynrefail, near Caernarfon, on Sunday.

Three people were hospitalis­ed after the crash, with one driver being transferre­d to Stoke Hospital with serious injuries.

A police spokesman said: “At approximat­ely 3pm, North Wales Police were informed of a three- vehicle collision involving a black coloured VW Golf, a Mazda MX5 and Nissan Duke on the A4244.

“The emergency services attended the scene and four people – the driver and front-seat passenger from the Mazda and Nissan Duke – were taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.

“The driver of the Nissan Duke was later transferre­d to hospital in Stoke with serious injuries.”

Sergeant Raymond Williams, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Although we arrested a local male shortly after this collision on suspicion of driving whilst over the prescribed limit of alcohol, dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision and failing to stop for police, I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact us.

“I am appealing for anybody that may have been travelling on that road between 2.30pm and 3pm and who saw a black-coloured VW Golf being driven in a dangerous manner to contact us.”
