Pwll face tricky test at Denbigh

-

PWLLHELI’S cricketers travel to Denbigh this Saturday looking to maintain their top six place in the North Wales League Premier Division.

The Llŷn side will be aiming to repeat their home victory back in May against this weekend’s opponents, but know Denbigh can be very dangerous.

Michael Hughes’ Pwllheli team made a welcome return to winning ways after back-to-back defeats last weekend when they beat struggling Hawarden Park at Parc Bodegroes. Park won the toss and elected to bat, but soon regretted that when they were bowled out for a meagre 89 in 32.2 overs, extras being their highest contributor with 24.

South African Jason Underwood picked up 4-19 off 6.2 overs; Sean Reilly grabbed 3-13 from seven, while Morgan MurrayWilliams snapped up 3-33 off 12. It was not quite plain sailing for Pwll, but they got home on 92-5 off 34 overs to wrap up a 12-3 points verdict. Underwood top-scored with 24 to pass 500 league runs for the summer, at an average of 73, while Murray-Williams added 22.

Pwllheli’s second string were also victorious in the 2nd XI West Division. After choosing to bat first at Dolgellau seconds, Pwll rattled up a fine total of 207-5 off 40 overs. Rhys Griffiths made 64, while evergreen Neil Williams, still averaging 108.00. edged towards 650 league runs for the campaign with 37.

Guto Roberts struck 31 and there was a useful 30 not out from Gareth Rhys Morgan.

In reply, Dolgellau were shot out for 124 in 33 overs. Williams snared 4-18 off nine overs, Guto Roberts collected 3-30 and Ioan Lloyd 2-5. The points went 14-1 in favour of the Llŷn side, third in the standings.

In second spot are in-form Caernarfon, who proved far too powerful for Bethesda seconds at Coed Helen. Home skipper Simon Davis put Pesda in, and his judgement proved sound as the visitors were dismissed for just 107 in 37.1 overs. James Logan returned fine figures of 4-10 for the Cofis off 4.1 overs, while Ian Morgan gathered 2-21 and Llyr Erddyn Davies 3-32. Caernarfon had no problem whatsoever sealing victory, breezing to 111-1 off 20.1 overs for a 14-1 points split and a fourth league triumph in a row.

After Grant Peisley went for five, Morgan dominated the bowling to finish 68 not out, Richie Parry ending unbeaten on 27.
