Solid win keeps Cofis out of bottom two

CAERNARFON kept themselves out of the bottom two in North Wales Coast Bowling League’s Division B after an 8-4 home victory over Mochdre Park A last Saturday.

Alan Evans and Eiddon Jones did much to boost the Cofis’ hopes with 21-5 wins apiece, Dion Williams triumphed 21-9 and there were other successes for Hanna Williams Jones and Des Hughes, both 21-16, plus Ali Jones at 21-18.

In Division A, Blaenau Ffestiniog experience­d mixed fortunes.

Last Thursday, the Quarrymen defeated Llanfairpw­ll 8-4 in a rearranged encounter.

Barry Hughes and Aled Owen both returned 21-9 cards, both Stephen Jones and Emlyn Williams were 21-11 winners, Dylan Jones prevailed 21-14 and Martin Hughes 21-17.

Two days later, Blaenau were beaten 8-4 at Craig-y-Don A, Iwan Jones impressing with a 21-9 win, Martin Hughes 21-13, Barry Hughes 21-15 and Richard Jones 21-18.

In Division D, Penygroes overcame Llandudno B 9-3.

Len Pitts (21-3) was top block with Danelle Jones close behind on 21-4. Other home winners were: Fred Stansfield (21-9), Jamie Jones (21-10), Aled Wynne (21-12), Peter Hanks (21-14) and Barry Wynne (2115). ● In the Anglesey/Bangor and District League’s Monday Division, both local sides were beaten this week.

Criccieth went down 7-3 at Llangefni, Peter Mattinson (2117) and Jim Beetham (21-20) winning in the singles for the visitors.

Caernarfon were beaten 8-2 at home by Beaumaris, Ali Jones (21-12) and Mal Burns (21-13) the home success stories.

Other scores: Holyhead 5 Benllech 5, Menai Bridge 4 Llanfairpw­ll 6.

Results ( July 9): Benllech 7 Menai Bridge 3, Criccieth 10 (Steve Latchford 21-3, Jane Chapman 21-6), Academi Llanfair 0, Llanfairpw­ll 7 Caernarfon 3 (Ali Jones 21-7).

The B team had taken a 4-3 lead in the games, only to concede the bonus, and victory overall, because of the aggregates of 132-107 points.
